The release of hybrid engines caused a major revolution among automotive companies. With the need to maintain high vehicle performance and the power characteristic of luxury vehicles, two major companies joined forces to develop an engine capable of making an even greater impact on the automotive market. While much of the design of this model is attributed to one of the brands, the engineering behind its engine and electrical components is signed by another major brand well known to sports car fans. Find out everything we know about this engine capable of changing the market.
A powerful and sustainable solution that combines the best of two major brands
Recently, we have been following the movement of several automakers that have developed hybrid engines or motors powered by less polluting fuels, such as hydrogen. However, the search for power and performance remains high, especially among luxury brands that continue to invest more and more in the development of engines capable of revolutionizing the market.
Recently, an automaker unveiled one of its newest luxury sports models, capable of surprising not only with its impeccable design, but also with its powerful engine. However, few know that this machine is the result of a collaboration between two major brands.
The new Lamborghini will revolutionize the luxury car market
According to some sources, the latest hybrid engine models developed by Lamborghini were partially developed by Mercedes-Benz. While Mercedes seeks to improve its position in the hybrid vehicle market, Lamborghini continues to pursue power and exclusivity in its luxury models, without neglecting performance and sustainability.
After relying on the engineering of Yasa, a British company acquired by Mercedes-Benz, in its new engines, the brand announced major changes to the Lamborghini V-12 Revuelto and V-8 Temerario models. With the changes, the cars will have a small, lightweight engine capable of producing twice the torque of the traditional model. Another engine with these characteristics was recently announced by Toyota.
The partnership between the two brands was celebrated by Graeme Cook, the brand’s Manager: “To see our collaboration flourish so early, first with the development of the e-propulsion system for the Revuelto V12 hybrid hypercar and now the next-generation YASA electric motor design for the Temerario V8, is simply thrilling. But this is just the start of our partnership with Lamborghini – we intend to continue to push engineering boundaries and challenge design norms.”
Despite owning this technology, Mercedes has not yet used it
Despite owning Yasa and all this technology, Mercedes has not yet used this engine model in its vehicles. The expectation is that the technology will be applied to an electric car to be announced soon. According to some rumors, the line that will feature this engine will consist of a sedan and a large SUV. Meanwhile, we can only imagine the impact that Yasa’s axial-flux motor will have on the automotive market.
According to the information released so far, the motor weighs an estimated 38.1 pounds and is capable of producing 148 horsepower while delivering 221 lb-ft of torque. The motor is 2.75 inches thick and 11.6 inches in diameter. Despite its compact size, it is capable of reaching 10,000 rpm.
Expectations for the launch are extremely high
Despite recent announcements, it is not yet possible to know exactly when we will see the new Lamborghini models on the streets. Even with the uncertainty surrounding the launch of the models, it is certain that the technology applied to the engine could revolutionize the automotive market and represent an even bigger step towards a green future, being a good alternative to hydrogen engines. Recently, another luxury company announced that it is also seeking alternatives to the use of hydrogen, and the surprise may be even greater.
