EV-dominating car brand Tesla is back in the headlines, but this time around it is not because it has manufactured a groundbreaking electric vehicle design or anything to do with Elon Musk’s position in the Trump administration; however, it is linked to a recall. This massive recall is major and affects 46,000 units of Tesla’s Cybertruck vehicles. If you own one or have been thinking of owning one, then it is time to pay attention, as this could pose a threat to your life and cause safety risks. CNBC reports that the reason for this recall is because the car can “delaminate and detach from the vehicle, potentially becoming a road hazard”.
This recall affects Cybertrucks that were manufactured from November 2023 to February 2025. Tesla seems to be working on the problem, but it does not take away raising concerns because this is the eighth recall in less than two years. What is happening to Tesla? According to the firm, owners of impacted Cybertrucks can bring them to Tesla’s service department to have the cant rail replaced for free.
A loose panel on the Cybertruck could pose a serious risk while driving
If you are not a car expert and do not know about materials used to produce vehicles, particularly that of the Cybertruck, you might think that a trim panel is a minor issue. However, in this case, the main issue is the Cybertruck’s cant rail, a stainless steel decorative piece that runs along the sides of the Cybertruck. The NHTSA claims that if that part of the vehicle comes off and separates while driving, it will cause extreme danger to the driver.
Now that you have a clear picture, imagine such an incident happening on the highway when the car is moving at a high speed. Top Class Actions reported that all Model Year (“MY”) 2024 and 2025 Cybertruck vehicles are to be taken back to be fixed and repaired at no cost. The Tesla recall reported that letters of notification will be mailed by May 19, 2025.
What to do if you are a Tesla owner
Individuals with concerns and questions regarding the recall may contact the Tesla service customer services at 1-877-798-3752. Customers may also get assistance from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236, states Top Class Actions. Unfortunately for Tesla, this recall comes at a very difficult time because the brand is under scrutiny already.
Can the Cybertruck resolve the problems with quality control?
If it was the second or third recall, then maybe it was going to have its way out. But 8 times! That is close to impossible. Critics have expressed that Tesla prioritises innovation over quality. The problem is that the Cybertruck was not recalled for minor issues but for issues such as parts falling off, accelerator pedals not working, software glitches and more, as reported by Mashable.
CNBC reported that Tesla has lost a value of 40% until this day, and this is a combination of a lot of things that has led the company to be where it is today. From constant recalls to losing its rebate programme from Canada to its facilities being vandalised and Tesla’s CEO associating himself with Trump, it is just too much to bear, and resolving these issues might take time because it is now unreliable.
The only credit Tesla can take right now is the quick action it has taken to fix the issue; however, the Cybertruck’s rocky start is making everyone question whether it is worth even purchasing it. Take, for example, the first Cybertruck police car in Dubai. This move was made as a way to trust Tesla but with these issues arising and constant recalls, perhaps Elon Musk should reconsider this and go back to the drawing board. Prior to this recall, Tesla recalled 24,000 Cybertrucks in November 2024. For more information about this recall, check the 25V-170 report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Association.
